Huge
Blue Diamond Found In South Africa
A recent find in the mines of South Africa is an
incredibly rare blue diamond. This stone is the size of an acorn and weighs
around 29.6 carats. This is an exceptional stone with a brilliant blue hue.
From the moment of its discovery it has become one
of the most rare and coveted stones on Earth. This superstar gem was found at
the famous Cullinan mine which is near Pretoria in South Africa. This is the
same place where the famous Cullinan diamond was found back in 1905. Cullinan
at that time was a whopping 3,106 carat of rough diamond. Cullinan was made
into First star of Africa and Second star of Africa. The Cullinan diamond was
bought by the British for their Crown Jewels.
This mine is a great place for diamonds as just a
few years ago this mine produced another blue diamond which was ultimately sold
for 15.58 U.S. dollars. This recent diamond however may become a record
breaking discovery as it will become a very significant find of this mine.
Analysts are predicting that this stone will auction for something between $13.61
million and $18.60 million.
An
Egg-Sized Diamond
A flawless white diamond which is the size of a
small egg has been sold for 30.25 U.S. dollars. This was sold in an auction
done at Sotheby's Hong Kong this week. Just a few months ago another such
diamond was sold for $25.11 million dollars in May of 2015.
This new diamond weighs 118.28 carats and is of a
stunning oval shape. This was discovered in South Africa a couple of years ago.
This diamond in its rough form weighed 299 carats. There was a bidding war over
the phone for six minutes. It is hard to imagine that so much money is expended
over the phone and so fast.
